Nunzio Vocatura, Jr., of Westerly, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Monday, June 27, 2016. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Nancy (Delmonte) Vocatura, who passed away on Feb. 5, 2014.
He was a son of the late Margaret and Nunziato Vocatura, Sr.
Nunzio is survived by two stepsons, Michael Rosso (Jaime) and Robert Rosso (Zallee); five grandchildren, Robin Panciera (Danny), Thyra Fusaro, Tyrisha Rosso, Michael Rosso (Lisa) and Brian Rosso (Talia); as well as four great-grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Virginia (Vocatura) Smith, of Westerly; a brother, Fred Vocatura, of Westerly and Deerfield Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joe and Peter Paul Vocatura; and a half-sister, Jane Gabrielle, all formerly of Westerly.
Honorably discharged from service on the USS Franklin in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he then attended a trade school for carpentry under the GI Bill in Peoria, Ill. After graduation he worked various construction jobs. “Nuns” retired from the Barney Construction Co. at the Pfizer facility in Groton, Conn.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, July 1, at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly.
