Obituary, William Charles “Bill” Schauer

William Charles “Bill” Schauer, age 90, was born on June 10, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Herman and Georgia (Weidenmiller) Schauer. He passed away Monday, February 13, 2017. Bill was married to his Walther League sweetheart, Marilyn Schauer (Freese) for 64 years. Bill grew up in Chicago and started his family there. He then lived in Glenview, IL for 33 years and moved to Saddlebrook Farms in Grayslake, IL after he retired. He served in the Navy during World War II in the pacific theater aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Franklin. Bill worked as an electrician for over 40 years, member of IBEW 134. He was a committed Christian and volunteered for several church organizations over the years, ushering and serving on building & finance committees. He was active in the American Legion Post 166, Glenview, IL. In recent years he enjoyed sharing his NASCAR passion with his children and loved to follow the activities of his grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife Marilyn, two daughters, Wendy (Martin) Landwehr, Sally (Jeff) Owen, his son, Michael (Vicki) Schauer, his grandchildren, Lauren (Rob) Dion, Kelsey Schauer, Matthew Seidl and his son-in-law Brian Seidl. He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Kimberly Seidl. Visitation and Celebration of Life Service will be at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 24500 Old McHenry Rd., Hawthorn Woods, IL on Saturday February 18, 2016, visitation 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will be private at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
