Obituary, Charles L. Shenck

Charles L. Shenck, 96, formerly of Lower Paxton Township, entered into God’s Grace on April 17, 2018 at the Middletown Home.
He was born October 26, 1921, in Bella Vista, PA, son of the late Raymond Franklin and Bertha B. Shenck. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Verna A. (Wagner) Shenck; parents; 1 grandson, Ryan Szoszorek; 1 granddaughter, Shayna Steinhauer; 6 brothers and 1 sister.
In 1942 he enlisted in the Navy to support the war effort. He served aboard the USS Franklin CV-13 and the USS Puget Sound CVE-113 aircraft carriers and achieved the title of First Class Aviation Boatson Mate in World War II. He was the recipient of the Victory, American Theater and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater medals. Chuck retired in 1981 from the Conrail Railroad, formerly the Pennsylvania Railroad, after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Railroad Retiree Club of PA, United Transportation Union and the American Legion 272 of Linglestown. He was also a member and former deacon of East Shore Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling with the Golden Agers at ABC North and friends at ABC East.
His greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family and friends. Chuck was the devoted husband of his late wife and childhood sweetheart Verna A. (Wagner) Shenck whom he dearly missed. They were married on Nov. 13, 1946 and their love story lasted nearly 59 years until her death on Sept. 10, 2005.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Lee and her husband, Gary Yanko of New Cumberland and Terry Lee and her husband, Thomas Gawlas of Hummelstown; a grandson, Shannon and his wife, Laurel Szoszorek; 3 great granddaughters, Katilyn Hamsher, Grace and Ella Steinhauer; 2 great grandsons, Zeke and Zane Szoszorek; a brother, Donald and many loving relatives and dear friends.
Chuck lived his life with unwavering faith, passion, love and dedication to his family.
Funeral Service will be Monday, April 23, 2018, 11 am, at East Shore Baptist Church, 6721 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112 with Pastor Brian Harrison officiating. Viewing 10-11 am at the church. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, beside his beloved wife Verna.
