Robert H. Frank, Sr. of North Wales passed away Monday April 28, 2014 at the age of 93.
Born in Pottsville, PA he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Ernst) Frank and the loving husband of the late Florence M. Frank. Bob is survived by his beloved children Elaine V. Shirley ( the late Al) of Texas, Susie Papciak (Carl) of Quakertown, Judith Barit (Robert) of Willow Grove, Marjorie Pfeiffer (the late Tom) of Bethlehem and Robert Frank, Jr. (Jan) of Lewes, DE. Also surviving are ten loving grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Bob grew up in Pine Grove, PA and attended Pine Grove High School where he excelled in both football and basketball. Bob was very active in the Boy Scouts, and was proud of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
Upon graduating from Penn State with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1942 he immediately entered the Navy to serve in WWII aboard the USS Franklin Aircraft Carrier. There he was assigned as flight deck Engineer. During his tenure in the Navy he achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant, and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic service in battle. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy he went to work for Baldwin Locomotive in Delaware County, PA. He went on to own his own business and later worked for the Barden Corp. where he retired as the VP of Sales and Marketing.
He was an active member of his community being the Past President of the Caster Garden Lions Club in Northeast Philadelphia and most recently enjoyed participating in the Neshaminy Falls Social Organization with his devoted companion Elle Fischer. His hobbies included golf, bowling, horse racing, boating and fishing. He was an avid gardener his whole life and rarely missed a Phillies, Eagles or Penn State football game on TV.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass 11AM , Monday, May 5, 2014 at Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 1325 Upper State Road, North Wales, PA where the family will receive friends at 10AM. Entombment will immediately follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army or the American Heart Assoc.
