William James Nott (LCDR U.S.Navy Retired), 91, of Portsmouth RI, died Friday, April 10, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA.
Mr. Nott was born April 8, 1924 in Groton, CT.
He is the son of the late William Edward and the late Mildred (Harris) Nott.
He was married to Marie Christina (Santangelo ) Nott for 61 years.
William enlisted in the Navy after high school and served during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. During his time in the Navy, he worked his way up through ranks and eventually became a commissioned officer, also known as a “Mustang” and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He served aboard the U.S.S Franklin (CV-13), of which he was very proud.
After retiring from the Navy, William went to work for Roger Williams University in the facilities management department, and became the director of that department for over twenty years.
He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Christina (Santangelo) Nott, his four sons, Michael Nott and his wife Shanon of Portsmouth, RI, James Nott and his wife Linda of Portsmouth, RI, Paul Nott and his wife Kim of Savannah, GA, and Thomas Nott of Portsmouth, RI.and his daughter Patricia Maggiacomo and her husband Michael. He is also survived by his brothers, Donald Nott, Raymond Nott and Richard Nott, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his greatgranddaughter Jayla Hudson.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday April 16, 2015 from 6-8pm in the Connors Funeral Home 55 West Main Road in Portsmouth, RI, friends and family are invited to attend.
Burial with military honors will be on Friday April 17, 2015 at 10am in Portsmouth Cemetery, Bristol Ferry Road in Portsmouth.
