Obituary, Teofilo Guerrero

On April 4th, 2015, Teofilo Guerrero or DOD (Dear Old Dad) as his baby girl, Cecilia called him, left his earthly confines for a world without pain, hate, or remorse. DOD was born in Miami, Arizona in 1924. He served his country during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Franklin as a member of the United States Navy. Determined to learn the English language, he taught himself one word every day. DOD joined the Navy Reserve and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 as a member of the Seabee’s. At the age of 48, he picked up the High School Equivalency book, studied it for a month, and passed with flying colors. Later, he became a Deacon serving the El Paso Diocese where he ministered to the inmates at the El Paso County Detention Facility, the ill, and anyone that needed a “spiritual” lift. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Concepcion, his brother, Manuel “Poli,” his sisters Nicolasa, Elvira, and his late wife, Belen Escobedo-Guerrero. He is survived by his wife, Filomena Guerrero, his sisters Aurelia, Amparo, Corina and brother, Daniel. His children, John (Lori), Leticia (Robert), Irma (Ignacio), David (Esther), and Cecilia. His grandchildren: Nicole, Adreanne, Roseleen, Kristen, Robert, Paul, Eric, Rene, Adrian, Eddie, Joseph, Jonathan, and fifteen great grandchildren. Visitation 4 to 9 on Perches Alameda on Sunday, Rosary 7 pm Perches Alameda, Mass 11:30 AM Monday at St. Francis Xavier. Burial at Ft. Bliss. Pallbearers: David, Eddie, Eric, Rene, Joseph, and Jonathan. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to any U.S. Veteran organization or to the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home, 9650 Kenworthy St., El Paso, TX 79924. 915-751-0967.
