Rene Narcisse Gauthier

September 7, 1925 – March 28, 2016

Rene Narcisse Gauthier, 90, was born in Manville, Rhode Island, to Cleophas and Antoinette Lamoureux Gauthier. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 18 in 1943 and served in the Pacific aboard USS Franklin. Rene survived the devastating attack on the carrier and was a member of the 704 Club. The USS Franklin roster lists him as F1/c, SVV-6 USNR.

After the war, Rene worked for Corning Glass, General Motors, Martin Marietta, and Kaman Aircraft, where he served as a buyer and purchasing agent. He maintained a lifelong interest in politics and participated in the Republican Town Committee in Plainville, Connecticut.

LIMA — Everett S. Kirk, Jr., 88, of Lima, passed away at 4:00 PM surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 15, 2016 at his residence.
He was born on August 12, 1927 in Newport, KY to Everett S. Kirk, Sr. and Hazel M. (Baugh) Kirk, who both preceded him in death. On October 7, 1951, he married Margaret E. Pedlow, they were married 45 years and she preceded him in death on May 18, 1997. On June 1, 1999, he married Beverly Jones, who survives in Lima.
Everett proudly served his country in the US Navy as a Radarman 2nd Class, during World War II, from July 1945 until August 1948. He served on the USS Niobrara, the USS Franklin and the inaugural tour of the USS Coral Sea. He had earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Degree from Ohio Northern University. He was the Project Construction Engineer and previously served as a Bridge Engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 1 for over 35 years and retired from there in 1997. Later in 1997, he went to work for International Tank Service, Inc. as the Chief Engineer. He attended work every day, where he was able to spend time working with his children and grandchildren. He worked up until the time of his passing and was currently one of the oldest practicing engineers in the state of Ohio.
He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the Eagles Aerie #1291, Celina and the Moose Lodge # 1473, Celina. He enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter and boating and spending time at his cottage at Lake St. Mary’s during the summer. He loved to vacation in Gatlinburg, TN and Ixtapa, Mexico. He was a true family man and loved to celebrate every birthday and holiday together with them. He often said “When it’s all said and done, all you have is your family.”
Surviving are his sons Edward P. (Julie) Kirk of Gomer and Everett “Butch” (Nancy) Kirk III of Lima; his daughters Susan A. (Douglas) Roser of Lima and Elizabeth R. (Kent) Bice of Lima; his step-son Jonathan (Sara) Bassett of Bluffton; his step-daughter Angela (Dennis) Mercer of Columbus; his grandchildren Edward P. Kirk II of Charlotte, NC, Michelle L. (Tony Bloomquist) Kirk of Lima, James P. Kirk of Lima, Jeffrey M. (Danielle) Beck of Lima, Cristine E. Kirk of Gomer, Holly E. (Jessey) Cox of Lima, Julie A. (Micah Lewis) Kirk of Lima, Everett S. (Janelle Neal) Kirk IV, of Lima and Margaret L. “Maggie” Bice of Lima; his step-grandchildren Madison Bassett and Lauren Bassett both of Bluffton, Rae Lynn Mercer and Marcus Mercer both of Colorado; great-grandchildren Hannah E. Cox, Harper E. Cox, Braylie L. Kirk, Lola M. Bloomquist, Emmalyn M. Beck and Reagan N. Beck; his special granddog “Dudley”; his brother Ronald C. (Susan) Kirk of Corrales, NM; his special nephew Edward B. (Carey) Pedlow IV of Lima and daughter Anna; his special niece Diane L. (Al) Watson of Ft. Thomas, KY and children Catherine and Ben; numerous other nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law Norma Jones of Cairo; his sisters-in-law Carolyn Jones and Rebecca Magrum both of Cairo; former daughter-in-law Kelly A. Kirk of Lima.
He was preceded in death by his son Stephen Michael Kirk; his brothers William and Kaye Donn Kirk; his sisters V. Jo Ann Kirk and E. Jane Giannetto.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 10:30 AM until 12 Noon at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
Funeral services will be at 12 Noon on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Pastor Richard Jueckstock officiating.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, where graveside military honors will be performed by members of the US Navy and VFW Post 1275.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Rescue Mission or Deb’s Dogs.

William Compton Kallbrier, Sr.

John T. Shelley Sr. passed away on November 8, 2015, at Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center, at the age of 89. He leaves his devoted wife of 64 years, Grace M. (Nathercote) Shelley; his two sons, Christopher P. Shelley of Springfield and John T. Shelley Jr. His daughter Maureen Sanchez died in 2005. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Megan Shelley, Kristen and Bobby Sanchez, Bridget and Nicholas Shelley; a great-granddaughter Kelsie; nieces and nephews. Born in East Boston, he was the son of John and Elizabeth (OConnell) Shelley; Mr. Shelley graduated from Wilmington High School in 1943 and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston. A U.S. Navy veteran during WW II, he served aboard the U.S.S. Franklin. John owned and operated Twin Brook Industrial Cleaning Inc. in Waltham for 45 years retiring in 1995. Dedicated to his business, John was hardworking man with a solid work ethic. He enjoyed sailing and skiing. After living in Waltham for 35 years, John and Grace moved to Northborough in 1996. They became members of St. Bernadette Parish. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 4-6 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. Johns Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Bernadette Church, 266 Main St. Northborough. Burial with military honors will follow in Howard St. Cemetery. Arthur D. Gratnz, 90, of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Sanford Jackson Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 beginning at 2p.m. at the Osterberg Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lance Isaacson officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Riverside Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 4th, from 5-7pm at the Osterberg Funeral Home, and on Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Arthur Duane Grantz, the son of George and Esther (Fisher) Grantz, was born on February 1, 1924 on the North Shore of Loon Lake in Middletown Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. In 1929 the family moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa before returning to Jackson in 1934. Art attended school in Spirit Lake and Jackson, later graduating from Jackson High School in June of 1943. On March 24, 1937, Art was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson; he also survived a bout with lockjaw in the same year. On July 4, 1943 Art entered the US Navy and served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Franklin, until it was hit off the coast of Japan on March 19, 1945. After his honorable discharge on March 6, 1946, Art returned to Jackson and began working at the Farmers Exchange. On May 2, 1948 he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Tweedt in Fairmont, Minnesota with the Reverend Walter Mondale, Sr. performing the marriage. After marriage Art became a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Art continued to work at the Farmers Exchange until 1952 when he joined the Jackson Police Department. He served three years as Deputy Sherriff before returning to the Jackson Police Department, where he enjoyed working with the School Patrol. He retired from the Police Department in 1972, at which point he went to work for The First National Bank, now Bank Midwest, until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed sports, fishing and gardening in his spare time. Art passed away at the Sanford Jackson Medical Center on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 30 days.

Art is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beverly, a sister Betty, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers, a sister, and an infant son.

Geoorge was born on August 26, 1927 and passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015.

George was a resident of Parkersburg, West Virginia at the time of his passing.

He served two years in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Franklin Aircraft Carrier.

He was married to Jacqueline.

Funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family with burial in the Mount Calvary Cemetery near Morgantown WV.
